Eneas and Carlos take on the clock in Frenchtown NJ

Having spent the day before at a family wedding, I arrived Sunday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed to the Frenchtown 35k time trial race on the border of NJ and PA along the Delaware river. If you have never visited this area of the northeast, take the time to spend a weekend at a B & B. You will not be disappointed.
Still in family party mode, it was great to have my team mate Carlos at the race with me to keep my ambitions in check. The course is a classic out and back of 35k on a perfectly paved and flat course. Other than the humidity, the conditions were excellent.
You either love time trial racing, or you hate it. There is no middle ground in the race of truth. It takes years to develop time trial skills and a major component of our training program at TARGETRAINING is improving threshold power and thus time trial ability. There is great cross over in cycling climbing, multisport events, and running with cycling threshold training. We like to think that our athletes consistently post some of the fastest time trial and tri/du bike splits in the area.
All of the hard work paid off that morning as Carlos took 3rd in his age group, and I won the overall posting times of 49:19 and 45:06 respectively.
Hope to see everyone at our 40k time trial test at Sherwood Island this Tuesday 8/25/09 morning at 6AM!
