Eneas wins Chatham Turkey Trot for a 3rd time!
After nearly 4 months of sitting on the sidelines with a hip stress fracture, I hopped back on the proverbial horse today in my come back running race, the Chatham, MA Turkey Trot.
Being able to count all of my recent runs on one hand, I was in no way in shape to run fast let alone competitively. Yet this race has been family tradition for a number of years as I always like to ride to the race start and home and make a morning of it. Means I can load my plate up twice tonight and try a slice of each pie!
Having grown considerably in recent years, the Chatham Turkey Trot hosted over 1,000festive runners and took food donations as part of the entry fee. What a great way to give back to the local community!
With the niceties over, it was time to line up and race, but not without saying hello to one of our great TARGETRAINING Members David Burton who has also made a habit of taking on this run annually. Nothing like bumping into a fellow TT athlete 250 miles from home!
We were off and boy had it been a long time, but with 1 mile left to go, I found myself with one other runner for company and a little kick in the last hundred meters secured me the victory, taking my 3rd Chatham Turkey Trot and setting a new course fast time.
It just goes to show that with enough patience and focus, we can overcome many things.
Time for some turkey and stuffing!
