The Sportsman’s Edge: Inside the mind of an athlete
Proven strategies and practical tips for developing the sportsman’s edge so you can get to the finish line faster.
Thursday, April 26th, 7:30 PM at TT Westport.
During training, we measure progress in terms of wattage, cadence, and miles, but the most important element of success, as elite athletes know, is harnessing the power of your mind. How do elite athletes train for success and overcome setbacks? Eneas Freyre, Head of Training, Endurance & Coaching and the Team at TT will share insights and anecdotes from their own experience and what they’ve learned from coaching and motivating amateurs.
Topics will include:
- Definition: What is the Sportsman’s Mind?
- How much of a factor is it in performance?
- What characteristics do great athletes have in common?
- What is mental discipline and why does it sound so painful?
- How high should you set the bar? Should goals be realistic or should you “shoot the moon”?
- Overcoming the fear of failure
- How do you “train” your mind? Daily tactics. Long term goals
- How do you pick yourself up after you fail (because nobody has 100% success)
- Listening to your body: When your body is telling you that you’ve reached your limit, should you quit, or “man up”?
- Q&A
