TT Runners Soar to State and Series Titles

March 3rd, 2013 marked the culmination of months of hard winter training for a number of TT athletes. TargeTraining's Women's Running Team exhibited steely poise to match the ferocious opposition of 2,000 runners in the 5K State Championship. Libby Kaplan captured the 50-54 age-group state title, gliding through the streets of downtown New Haven to a time of 21:59. Kim Driscoll followed Libby in 22:17, for bronze position in the same age-group.
Anna Pluta struck gold in just her second race ever, seizing victory in the 30-34 age group. Her 6:34 pace over the distance was good enough for 5th overall. Jana Ireijo ran to 4th position in the ultra-competitive 40-44 age group, attaining a 40 second personal best en route.
The next Connecticut State Championship occurs on April 7th at the Danbury Half Marathon, when the ranks of TT's Running Team may be bolstered by the inclusion of Aili DiBonaventura and Christine Vincent who raced with determination on the same day at the Boston Buildup 25K, the final race of the grueling 4 race Winter Series.
Aili finished 3rd three times and second once in her respective age-group. She actually held faster paces as distances throughout the series increased: 7:56 for 10K, 8:05 for 15K, 8:04 for 20K, and 8:02 for 25K. No doubt she's on tract for a fantastic run at the 117th Boston Marathon this April.
The difficult courses and merciless weather conditions of the winter series can't be overemphasized, a truth Christine Vincent accepted while moving up from more comfortable 5Ks. She discovered longer races suited her, finishing 5th in her age group in the 10K, 2nd in the 15K, 1st in the 20K, and 2nd in the 25K. Her paces ranged from 6:58 at 10K, to 7:30 in the 15.5 mile 25K. All that running was good enough to come away with the 2013 series title in the 40-49 age group.
The overall men's title went to running coach Tim Milenkevich who mustered an unassailable lead after two races, yet continued to run hard and established personal bests in the 20 & 25K.
A big congratulations to all and on to continued success!
