Westport Minuteman Tri
I broke my foot training for this event two years ago and last year I rode in the Tour of Greenwich. So when Paul Filanowski and Cheri Gaverielidis asked me to join them in a relay it sounded fun and so I took them up on it.
We are proud to report that we represented TargeTraining proudly by winning the relay!
Our team posted a time of 42:11. The results site shows 47:11, but does not factor in the 5 minute stagger. My watch comfirmed the 42 minute time. It was a great team effort. Paul's time of 11:47 for the swim looks to be about the third best time of the day, which set me off strongly for the fastest posted bike time of 13:42. Cheri then brought us home with a personal best 7:19 mile pace that gave us the win.
As a tip of the hat to David Yockelson, who came in second overall, he probably had a slightly faster bike time than our team did given that his 14:15 time included a bit more time in the transition area than our quick relay hand off. So I'll give recognition where its due since I had the easy job of just doing a bike leg.
The event was great fun and I would encourage everyone to try a relay sometime. There is something different knowing that your team is relying on you for your best performance. It seems to encourage that extra effort.
