Hunter Mtn. summer cycling road race report
TARGETRAINING's Eenas Freyre tackeled Saturdays 7/27/13 Hunter Mountain Summer road race which provided the elite cycling field a 2 lap course of 77miles and 4000 feet of climbing. The course had 2 climbs of about 5k but relatively shalow grades of around 3-5%.
The course has always proven to support high speeds within the peloton so Eneas chose 404 wheels to take advantage of this.
For the 1st 14miles the peloton attacked the course at high speeds ave. almost 26mph. The criticle move of the race came when Eneas attacked solo on a long and straight down wind section before the 2nd KOM. Eneas stayed away till the top of the climb when a group of 11 formed as the main and only break of the day. To create the selection Eneas had to make a 24min effort of 5.4 w/k.
Once the break was established the break worked well together to tackle the remainder of the course until the group hit the last KOM of the race about 13miles from the finish where Eneas once again took advantage of a disintegrating break and made another selection of 4 over the top of the climb. With about 5miles from the finish, the winning move of 1 went from the break.
In the end Eneas won the sprint of 3 for a solid 2nd place finish.
