Weekend Recap
As Rick mentioned in the previous post, this weekend brought with it the opportunity for Target Training to team up with the organizers of the Toughman Triathlon (half ironman) and lead a preview ride of the very challenging, but very beautiful course. The day could not have been more perfect and I was excited because I hadn't ridden the course since racing it last year. We split the 75 riders into four groups with Dom leading the fastest group, Dave Booth leading Group 2, me leading Group 3 (we ended up averaging 17mph...so much for a leisurely preview ride!), and Clare volunteering to take Group 4. The overall vibe of the day was that the riders were thrilled with the course despite the multiple challenging hills, and they were appreciative of the support and advice that Target Training had to offer! Here is just one of the many gorgeous views:
With this ride bringing my total mileage for the week to 165+, in addition to two swims and 25+ miles of running, I was not looking forward to putting forth a race effort today at Park City. But I have to give credit to many at TT for helping me be more prepared for this race than I thought. I've been focusing my training on both the Duathlon Worlds in Edinburgh, Scotland on Labor Day Weekend, as well as for the Toughman Triathlon the weekend after. I have been attending the various running, swimming, cycling and brick classes that TT has to offer, and have been receiving invaluable advice and coaching from Eneas and Dom. I have been heeding their advice and paying my dues and it is helping immensely! Also a huge help are the fellow TTers that push me to my limits daily during these workouts (thanks Bob, Katie, Megan, Clare, Wallace, Brett!). Being able to train with such wonderful, high caliber athletes has been priceless. So anyway, back to today's race...
Today was the Park City Olympic Triathlon in Seaside Park, Bridgeport, CT. Target Training was out in force...Eneas, Bob La Banca, Katie Bottini, David Yockelson (fresh off a Central Park Tri victory), Max Veiga, Kim Driscoll, John Cook, and a few other TT tri suits out there, along with Megan Kelly, the Freyre family, and Justin cheering us on! And when I say out in force, I mean it: Eneas, Bob, and John won their age groups, David was 2nd in his AG by only 6 secs back, and injured Max was 3rd in his AG! Katie was 2nd overall female, and I ended up 1st overall female! So you can see what I mean about giving credit to many at TT for helping me be more prepared for this race than I thought! Thanks to my husband, I have some great shots of the day of both the action and the awards!
